Iceland wanted to boycott Eurovision. There was a scandal

In March 2024, the final of the national competition Söngvakeppnin 2024 was won by Hera Björk, who already represented Iceland in 2010 year. In the final stage of pre-selection, she competed with someone from Palestine Bashar Murad. The very end of the pre-selection took place in the shadow of a scandal: errors in counting SMS votes were then revealed, which, however – as the organizers assured – had no impact on the final result.

Shortly afterwards, the Icelandic public television RÚV announced that after the national preselections it would consider further participation in Eurovision 2024 or possible resignation, expressing opposition to allowing Israel to participate in the competition. Ultimately, the sender confirmed Iceland's presence.

Hera Björk started her music career in 2000. In 2006, she released her self-titled album simply “Hera Björk”.

Before 2010 Hera participated in Eurovision twice, but not as the country's main representative. In 2008, Björk was a backing singer during the performance of the group Eurobandið, and a year later she vocally supported Yohanna during her performance in the competition. In 2009, she also tried her hand at the Danish preselection, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, with the song “Someday”, taking second place.

In 2010, Björk performed in the Icelandic preselections for Eurovision with the song “Je ne sais quoi” and eventually became Iceland's representative at Eurovision in Oslo. She advanced to the final from third place in the semi-final and ultimately took 19th place. She went to Eurovision again and again as a choir singer in 2015.

On March 11, 2024, it was officially confirmed that she would represent Iceland again at Eurovision 2024.
