“I would kick you if I could”: Will an outstanding role bring her her first Oscar?

Movie “I would kick you if I could” received four nominations for the Gotham Awards (awarded on December 1), awarded for 35 years in New York, which traditionally symbolically open the film awards season. These are nominations in the following categories: best film, best screenplay, best director (Mary Bronstein) and best leading role (Rose Byrne).

The phenomenal and electrifying Rose Byrne (awarded the Silver Bear at this year’s Berlinale) gives a real acting performance and is the real star of this project. It is very possible that it will earn her a debut Oscar nomination.

“I’d Kick You If I Could” is an emotional rollercoaster about a woman who struggles every day with reality, her crumbling life and her own limits of endurance.

When her daughter falls ill with a mysterious illness and her husband disappears on business, Linda’s world begins to crumble, turning her everyday life into an impossible obstacle course.

In close shots with incredible visual intensity, the film pulsates with tension and emotion. Rose Byrne delivers an outstanding performance, slaloming masterfully between anger, despair, determination and madness. It is a realistic, moving and at the same time disturbing portrait of a woman who tries to maintain some control in the face of chaos.

Director Mary Bronstein, drawing inspiration from her own story, and producer Josh Safdie (“Uncut Diamonds”) serve up cinema that debunks the myth of perfect motherhood and leaves the viewer breathless. The supporting cast includes the brilliant Conan O’Brien as a therapist and rapper A$AP Rocky as a motel janitor.

“I’d Kick You If I Could” in cinemas from February 20, 2026. Best Film is the Polish distributor of the film.
