For writing and directing a comedy of manners “Holy Night” Jarosław Banaszek answers. The main roles are played by: Maja Barełkowska (“Demon”, “Citizen”), Piotr Cyrwus (“Pan Tadeusz”, “Kryptonim Polska”) and Michał Rolnicki (“Suicide Room”, “Splitter”).
“The idea for the script of ‘The Holy Night’ came from a true story about the traumatic experiences of a woman. However, it took me several years to find a form that would convey this content. Only the idea to use a tragicomic convention allowed the work to get off the ground. As a result, a story was created that contains several levels: comedic – based on character conflict, metaphorical – with questions about interpersonal relationships, relationship crisis, attitude towards tradition and finally satirical, because we allowed ourselves to a slight mockery of the ossified convention of the so-called ‘Christmas cinema’,” says director Jarosław Banaszek.
“‘The Holy Night’ is a film made from the heart, with passion, by a group of creators who together wanted to tell an extraordinary, slightly funny, slightly serious story, written by Jarosław Banaszek, who is also the director of the film. What can result from the unexpected meeting of three intriguing people on this special Christmas Eve evening? Would you like to join us in the cinema to find the answer to this question? I hope so… Together with the main actors, Maja Barełkowska and Michał Rolnicki, we invite you to our film! – adds Piotr Cyrwus.
