Hania Rani, or Hanna Raniszewska, has been delighting with music for years not only in Poland, but also abroad. The pianist and composer received the Fryderyk Award in the Artist of the Year category in March. He is inspired by the works of Chopin, The Beatles and Radiohead. She won the hearts of listeners with the albums “Esja” and “Home” from 2020. He has already won 7 Fryderyk awards, Paszport Polityka and performances at the most important events in Europe.
She had the opportunity to create music for, among others: to “As Far Away from Here” by Piotr Domalewski, “Śubuk” by Jacek Lusiński, the film “Rosalie” by Stéphanie Di Giusto presented in Cannes, several series, documentaries and short films. She recently composed songs for Joachim Trier’s film “Sentimental Value”, which premiered in the Main Competition of this year’s Cannes Festival. Now she has been nominated for the European Film Awards in the “best music” category.
The European Film Awards (EFA) are the most important awards on the Old Continent. The statuettes, often called “European Oscars”, have been awarded since 1988 by filmmakers associated with the European Film Academy. Ceremonial galas were initially held in November, and for many years in December. This year, however, has been postponed – the 38th European Film Awards ceremony will take place on January 17, 2026 in Berlin.
A film by Joachim Trier (“The Worst Man in the World”“Oslo, August 31”, “Reprise. From the beginning. Once again…”) is a story about two sisters: actress Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) and their struggles with mourning after their mother’s death. Their lives will turn upside down after the return of their long-lost father, the famous film director Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), whose goal is not only to improve the relationship with his daughters, but above all to make another film with his daughter in the main role.
In addition to music, “Sentimental Value” has a chance to win seven more awards: four in main categories and three in technical categories. The composer’s nomination is not the only Polish accent at this year’s European Film Awards. The Polish co-production “Franz Kafka”, directed by Agnieszka Holland (“The Green Border”, “Citizen Jones”, “Pokot”), received three nominations: one for actor and two in technical categories.
