The invasive puffer fish is taking over the Greek coast

Why is the puffer so dangerous?

Ingestion of even a small amount of the toxin may lead to severe poisoning, which may result in death in extreme cases.
The puffer fish is also equipped with extremely strong, beak-like teeth. It easily bites through fishing nets, crustacean shells and even thin metal elements. Contact with the fish may result in deep and painful injuries requiring medical intervention.
Tourists should exercise caution
Experts emphasize that attacks on humans are still rare, but as the number of pufferfish increases, the likelihood of dangerous incidents increases. , also close to popular beaches visited by tourists.
Greek services conduct information campaigns and appeal to people not to touch any fish they encounter. In some bays, special barriers are also created to limit their movement.
