39. Tarnów Film Award has just come to an end. The jury and viewers watched within a week 14 selected Polish full -length films participating in the main competition. On the screen of dreams, cinema with over a hundred years of tradition, films such as: “Silence”, “Simona Kossak”, “Seasons”, “Balance”, “Girl with a needle”, “Photosensitive”, “Listen to what I want to tell you”, “Under the volcano”, “Sparrow”, “Kulej. Two sides of the coin”, “There will be no other end”, “Minghun”, “This is not my movie” and “Things necessary”. These productions fought not only for the Grand Prix in the form of a statuette “Mask”but also for the youth jury award “Cameraman”Audience Award “Public” and as many as three special prizes.
The award ceremony began with the welcome of the guests and the speech of the MP to the Sejm Urszula Augustyn. Then the award for the lifetime of creativity and contribution to the development of Polish cinematography was collected by Bogusław Linda, one of the most popular actors and an icon of Polish cinema. The artist received the statuette “Wandering” Personally, at the hands of President Tarnów Jakub Kwaśny. In the case of this distinction, a cash prize of PLN 10,000 is also awarded.
This year, the children’s jury, consisting of representatives of Tarnów kindergartens and primary schools, also presented his award, composed of: Leon Jop, Hanna Prząd, Ignacy Fidowicz, Alicja Podstyska, Błażej Piwowarczyk, Krystian Rdzak, Przemysław Idziak, Bruno Bajan, Helena Kocin, Marta Tomaszewska, Iga Mazur and Helena Grad. The youngest body awarded the young viewer’s films in the review “Mask” and a cash prize of PLN 5,000 fairy tale “Packed” directed by Damian Tchórzewski. The creator, who is also a producer of the image, received the award in person.
Youth jury composed of: Daria Augustyn, Zbigniew Gunia, Patryk Jasiak, Kacper Łasak, Julia Przeslasa, Dariusz Robak and Wiktoria Wierzba (chairwoman) awarded the Youth Jury award “Losing balance” Boyanowski Kork for “kidnapping us into the world of acting ambition and taking our senses”. Statuette “Cameraman” and a cash prize of PLN 5,000 from the hands of the chairman of Wiktoria Wierzą and Daria Augustyn was received on behalf of the director, actor Mikołaj Matczak.
One of the jurors of the Tarnów Film Award is the audience, whose choice is considered by many creators as the most important. This year, the audience award in the form of a statuette “Public” and a cash prize in the amount of PLN 5,000 was received by a film “Photosensitive” Tadeusz Śliwa. The director was handed by the deputy director of TCK Dominik Dąbek and TCK director Tomasz Kapturkiewicz.
During this year’s edition, for the first time in the history of the festival, a special prize for the debuting creator in the amount of PLN 5,000 was awarded, funded by the Tarnów Culture Center and the Association of Polish Filmmakers. TNF director Magdalena Piątek and artistic director of TNF Kuba Armata handed her to Monika Majorek for “There will be no other end”. “This is a wise, brave debut, inviting the viewer to accompany in very intimate experience. For a tender study of escape and returns and a poignant story about traumas, which does not overwhelm, and gives light” – The justification of the verdict was.
In addition, a professional jury of the 39th Tarnów Film Award chaired by Anna Jadowska, a director appreciated by critics and awarded paintings, such as: “Wild roses” Whether “A woman on the roof”; whose composition also included: Konrad Bugaj – cast director, Diana Dąbrowska – film expert and author of the project of educational meetings online and podcasts “Accademia of Italian cinema”Piotr Jaxa – film operator and photographer, Łukasz M. Maciejewski – screenwriter, as well as Kamila Office – actress; After watching 14 competition films, they awarded two more special prizes.
A special prize in the amount of PLN 5,000 funded by Gemini Park Tarnów went to Małgorzata Imielska for a documentary film “Listen to what I want to tell you”. The director received her together with the heroine Otyla Ejsmont from the hands of the members of the jury: Kamila Official and Konrad Bugaj and the director of Gemini Park Tarnów Krzysztof Kryczka. “The film with exceptional delicacy, but also by the strength of the artistic expression gives the voice to those who often remain deaf. The film captivates with authenticity, humanism and deep understanding of the subject, becoming an important voice in a conversation about mental health and social responsibility. This is a cinema that he not only documents, but heals – through mindfulness, tenderness and truth” – jurors justified their decision.
On the other hand, a special prize of PLN 5,000 funded by MGGP SA went to Maria Zbąska behind “This is not my movie” for “An amazing film journey that charmed us with her fantasy, truthfulness, humor and uncompromising artistic vision of her brave creator. For a work that reminds us of how important and beautiful the passion of creation is”. The director’s award was presented by members of the jury: Diana Dąbrowska and Piotr Jaxa and the president of MGGP SA Paweł Grad.
By decision of the Jury of the Professional Grand Prix 39. Tarnów Film Award in the form of a statuette “Mask” and a cash prize in the amount of PLN 15,000 was received by Magnus von Horn for “Girl with a needle”. The body awarded the production of the highest laurel for “Brutal but beautiful. For a difficult but important film. For a film that grabbing the viewer by the throat, showing the past, indicates that here and now it still requires us to be better”. The director was awarded to the director’s chairwoman Anna Jadowska and Łukasz M. Maciejewski.
The 39th Tarnów Film Award was officially closed by President Tarnów Jakub Kwaśny. The event was graced by a concert entitled “Series, Series”in which the jazz trio composed of: Krzysztof Herdzin (piano), Mariusz Bogdanowicz (double bass) and Piotr Biskupski (drums) made compositions from iconic Polish series such as: “Polish roads”, “Doll”, “Forty -year -old”, “Peasants”, “Civil war”, “Jan Heart”, “Four Panzer and Dog”, “07 Report” Whether “Stake greater than life”.
The winning films will be available at the dream cinema on Sunday, June 8, as part of the Epilogue of the 39th Tarnów Film Award.
