Polonica is, next to the Main Competition, the oldest section of the festival in Gdynia. Polish filmmakers have been successfully involved in European and global co-productions for years.
“This year’s Polonica section titles reflect contemporary cinema that is not indifferent to the world around us – attentive, sensitive, exploring new rules and boundaries of reality, as well as evoking timeless values. I am glad that our filmmakers are an important voice in this story” – says artistic director of the festival Joanna Łapińska.
During this year’s 49th edition of the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, the audience will see three films in the Polonica section.
A film by British director James Marquand “Treasure chest” tells the story of Krystyna Skarbek, a spy for the British agency, often called “Churchill’s favorite spy”forgotten after the war, struggling to cope with everyday reality. American comedy-drama “Better late than never” Lisa Steen is the story of the ambiguous relationship between injured young Louise and Antonina (played by Małgorzata Zajączkowska), an older, grumpy Polish woman who helps the girl get back on her feet – both literally and figuratively. Polonica: in the cast Malgorzata Zajączkowska.
“Together with the case” Goran Stolevski tells the story of a queer family whose dynamics change with the death of Suada, the mother of two daughters. Polonica: scenography: Anna Rzeźniczek, production: Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, Beata Rzeźniczek, Marcin Łuczaj, Jan Naszewski.
