The topic was brought up during a recent interview which Brian May and Roger Taylor they gave to “Big Issue” magazine. Discussing the band’s past as it celebrates its 50th anniversary “Bohemian Rhapsody”they also didn’t forget to refer to the future…
“Thanks to the music we listen to all the time, Freddie (Mercury – ed.) is still present among us. John (Deacon; former Queen bassist who retired in 1997 – ed.) in a sense, also remains with us. But today, completely new doors are opening for us. I mean all these immersive experiences, like The Sphere in Las Vegas. We’ll be able to give people a very realistic sense of what it was like to play as Freddie, John, Brian and Roger. And that really speaks to me,” Brian May said.
Let us remind you that November 24 marked 34 years since the death of Freddie Mercury. The singer died at the age of 45 from pneumonia due to weakness caused by AIDS.
Brian May: “We can be real Queen again”
The artist admitted that a substitute for such a show can now be seen at Queen concerts, while performing the song “Love of My Life”at its end Mercury appears in the form of a video projection. However, May does not want to limit herself to such a simple form. He said: “We can push it so much further. I’m very moved by the thought that we can be a real Queen again.”
Roger Taylor, in turn, admitted that the concert “ABBA Voyage” it left him with mixed feelings. However, he realizes that technology is now at a higher level than when ABBA members were working on their own show.
“I had a good time during the concert, I liked it, but the projections were not convincing for me. I think that technology has advanced much further since ABBA’s concert began and that there is still a lot that can be done,” he said.
In April 1992, a special concert in memory of Freddie Mercury was held at Wembley Stadium. Three years later, a posthumous album appeared “Made in Heaven”.
Brian May and Roger Taylor continued the group’s activities, initially – in 2004-2009 – as Queen + Paul Rodgers (with a singer known from Free and Bad Company), and since 2012 as Queen + Adam Lambert with the American finalist “Idol”.
