“Anora” received an Independent Spirit Awards in the categories: Best Film, Director (Sean Baker) and the main role (Mikey Madison).
Two awards went to the creators of the drama “real pain” filmed in Poland. He was appreciated for the script (Jesse Eisenberg) and supporting role (Kieran Culkin).
Sean Wang also received two statuettes called Oscars of Independent Cinema for “Didi”. He triumphed in the categories: the first film and the first script.
The best international film was the “Flow” animation, and the best document shocking the Palestinian-Norwegian image “we do not want another land”.
“Anora” He tells the story of the title young dancer (Mikey Madison), who spontaneously agrees to a wedding with a not very volatile son of the Russian oligarch. The young man’s parents are not delighted with his decision and want to cancel the marriage as soon as possible. Unfortunately, they can resolve them, but also intends to fight for his own. This will cause a lot of difficulties for the boy’s parents and their helpers.
The film is the latest work of Sean Baker, the creator of “Florida Project” and “Red Rocket”. It is a rally powered by New York, in which the heroes angry angrily, and leave chaos behind them. In this wonderfully directed turmoil, however, the enormity of heart and sadness, which hit the final scenes.
Sean Baker’s film received the Golden Palm at last year’s Cannes festival. In addition to the Film Independent Spirit Awards, he was also awarded with the awards of the guild of producers, directors and screenwriters, as well as Critics’ Choice, which makes him the main favorite in the Oscar race.
Baker himself has a chance for as many as four Oscars (film, director, original script, assembly). In addition, the Academy appreciated the movie stars: Mikey Madison for the leading role and Yura Borisov for the second plan.
