It’s probably no surprise to anyone that famous parents equal an easier career path, especially at the very beginning. While some people travel from casting to casting and fight for a moment of attention, for others the name alone is enough to get their first dream role.
Some stars openly say that their famous parents made their career easier or, on the contrary, they claim that the big names caused them trouble and were rather a burden. Eve Hewson is one of those latter — daughter of the legendary singer from U2 — Bono and his wife Ali Hewson.
Born in 1991 Eve Hewson made her screen debut in 2005 and since then she has appeared every now and then with a new, fascinating role. She first appeared in front of the cameras in the short film “Lost and Found”, and three years later appeared in the movie “Club 27”. She also starred in the Oscar-winning “Bridge of Spies” directed by Steven Spielberg. Then she had the opportunity to play alongside Sean Penn in “Cheyenne’s All the Way Down”, but her greatest recognition came from her role in the exceptional series “The Knick”.
The action of the series “The Knick” takes place in New York, in a hospital Knickerbocker, in the early 20th century, when antibiotics did not exist and patient mortality was alarmingly high. The series shows the pioneering days of surgery through the prism of the doctors working under the command of Dr. Thackery. Ewe Hewson plays the role of Nurse Lucy Elkins and starred opposite Clive Owens.
The actress has never hidden the fact that her family connections made things easier for her – while her colleagues were still looking for an agent or had trouble getting a role, she was already at castings.
“My friends, very talented actors, fought to get the audition. I haven’t experienced this. Of course, this is not how the system should work. But when you have an open door in front of you, it’s natural to go through it” – Hewson confessed in an interview with the weekly “Radio Times”.
However, what initially seemed to be the best opportunity and the greatest benefit, after some time it turned out to be an obstacle.
“People often have very low expectations of me because they assume it’s impossible for me to be good at what I do. When it turns out that it is different than they thought, they are usually very surprised,” she said a few years ago.
As it turns out, her parents were initially against her acting career, but already as a very young person she proved that it was not a whim and stood her ground.
In recent years, we could see Eve Hewson in the Netflix miniseries “Behind Her Eyes”based on the novel by Sarah Pinborough. The story follows Simon as she embarks on an affair with her psychiatrist. Her life takes a strange turn when she befriends his wife, Adele (played by Eve Hewson), Bono’s daughter received a lot of praise for this performance..
