In a clip from New York Comic-Con Matthew Vaughn revealed that the actress received a fake script to ensure that she would agree to play the weather-controlling superheroine again. According to him, an interesting plot was created for her character. All this to bring the Oscar winner back as Storm. The producers did not intend to implement it.
“I went into someone at (Fox)’s office and saw the script for the third ‘X-Men’ movie. It was much thicker than my copy. I asked what it was? They told me not to worry about it,” Vaughn recalled.
“I took it, opened it to the first page. (…) Africa. Storm creates a storm to save children from lack of water. I thought it was a pretty cool idea. I asked again what it was. They said it was a script for Halle Berry, who hadn’t signed the contract yet. She wanted the movie to look like this. When she signed the papers, they wanted to throw it in the trash,” he continued.
“If they were going to do something like that to an Oscar-winning actress, then I’m gone. They’re grinding me like meat… That’s one of the main reasons I gave up on ‘X-Men 3,’ I’m not lying,” Vaughn said.
Halle Berry reacted to this statement on her Instagram account. “You don’t realize all the dishonest crap that’s going on behind your back. Thank you Matthew Vaughn for shedding light on it,” wrote the actress.
Vaughn was involved in the third part of “X-Men” when Bryan Singer, the creator of the first two films in the series, resigned from directing. When he left, Brett Ratner took his place. The film was released in cinemas under the title “X-Men: The Last Stand”. It grossed $460 million but received much worse reviews than its predecessors.
