Eurovision 2024: Slovenia's sudden decision shocked the participants

Raiven (check!) is well known to fans of the competition, she tried her hand at national selections three times, always being one step away from victory, but without final success. This time, the Slovenian broadcaster made a decision about giving up open selectionswhich is a big surprise… and a great opportunity for the singer.

Thus, Slovenia went against the generally accepted tradition, according to which countries select their teams during an internal competition. Of course, this was met with a wave of comments – at home and abroad.

The change in the artist selection strategy results from the desire to present an artist with an already established position. Maša Kljun, head of the Slovenian delegation, emphasized the importance of the experience and history that the artist brings to the competition. Raiven's strong position in social media was also important.

New song by Raiven, titled “Veronika”, was presented during a special program on January 20. A month later, her album “Sirene” was released.

Sara Briški Cirman, known as Raiven, is a versatile artist with a rich musical achievements. Her work revolves around genres such as electropop, electro opera and alternative opera. She graduated with a master's degree in opera singing and is a respected mezzo-soprano and harpist. Raiven gained recognition by performing at the Serbian Exit festival, where she attracted the largest audience in the event's history.

As an independent country, Slovenia debuted at Eurovision in 1993. The country's representatives finished seventh, the highest they have ever been. Slovenia has long had trouble breaking through the glass ceiling of the competition's semi-finals. In recent years, she has been looking for new ways to strengthen her position on the Eurovision stage, and Raiven's selection may be a step in the right direction.
