This year, the organizers of the 49th Polish Feature Film Festival have planned five screenings in the section Documents in Gdyniaincluding two in cooperation with Krakow Film Festivaland one of Millenium Docs Against Gravity.
“The Gdynia program would be incomplete without documentary cinema. I invited five films, five strong, moving stories, each of which asks questions about the most important things. Polish documentary cinema is strong and boldwhich the audience of our festival will find out about,” says the artistic director Joanna Lapinska.
What films will be shown in Gdynia?
In the movie “8th Day of Khamsin” (direction: Zvika Gregory Portnoy) we will travel with Marek Hłasko to Israel in the 1950s, which becomes an inspiration and a trap with no way out for him. After the screening, there will be a meeting with the creators.
In the document “Listen to what I want to tell you” (direction: Margaret Imielska) we will meet Gosia, who, despite deep psychotic states and long depressive episodes, fights for a better life – it is a story about love, willpower and unconditional support. After the screening, there will be a meeting with the director.
In the movie “I am a fictional character” (direction: Arkadiusz Bartosiak) we get a multi-dimensional portrait of an outstanding actor Andrzej Seweryn. After the screening there will be a meeting with producer Katarzyna Kubacka-Seweryn, privately the actor’s wife.
The last two titles will take viewers to the Polish-Belarusian border. In the engaging documentary “The trees are silent” (direction: Agnieszka Zwiefka) we will look at the fate of a teenage Kurdish girl, Runa, who, in the face of tragedy, becomes the head of the family. In turn, “Forest” (direction: Lidia Duda) shows how big politics changes small stories – escape to Białowieża Forest turns out to be only a temporary relief for Asia and Marek, because as a result of the crisis they have to provide shelter to Others. Meetings with the creators are also planned after the screenings of these films.
