Dick Cheney is dead. Former US Vice President was the hero of the movie “Vice”

His family announced the politician’s death in a special statement. The former vice president passed away surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife Lynne and daughters Liz and Mary.

During his political career, he was White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford (1975-77), a Republican congressman representing Wyoming (1979-89), and Secretary of Defense under George H. W. Bush (1989-93). He is considered one of the most important and influential vice presidents in the history of the United States. His voice was to be decisive in matters of response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, the war on terrorism and the invasion of Iraq.

Cheney left office with extremely negative polls. His critics also included representatives of Hollywood. The vice president was often portrayed as an evil and cynical, and sometimes even demonic, figure, including on the variety show “Saturday Night Live,” in which he was portrayed by Phil Hartman and Darrell Hammond.

IN “IN.” Oliver Stone’s 2008 film about the presidency of George W. Bush, Cheney was played by Richard Dreyfuss. However, his role in the plot was small.

In 2018 Adam McKay he made a black comedy “Vice”about Cheney’s political career. Christian Bale played the vice president. The film also starred Amy Adams (Lynne Cheney), Sam Rockwell (George W. Bush) and Steve Carrell (Donald Rumsfeld). The film received eight Oscar nominations, including production of the year, director and screenplay. Bale, Adams and Rockwell also had a chance to win the statuette. The film won only in the make-up and hairstyles category.

Bale won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his role. Receiving the award, the actor joked that he should thank “the devil for the inspiration.”

Bale’s words’and were not well received by the vice president’s family. Liz Cheney recalled the accusations against the actor from 2008. He was then accused of attacking his mother and sister. “The devil probably inspired him to do this too,” she wrote on her Twitter account (today X).
