Legends from the Lubusz forests
The Lubuskie Voivodeship is not only full of forests, but also of legends. After the rock in the middle of the Tarnow Forest with a mysterious painting of a red monkey, described by me in the article “The place was not marked on the map for a long time. The red monkey calls to the brave”, it’s time for another rock shrouded in legends and with a thrilling feeling. , because this is the name of the impressive (3 x 3 x 2 m) erratic rock located in Bulin near Kożuchów (Nowa Sól County), arouses many emotions.
A picturesque road to the legendary boulder
Coming from Nowa Sól, we have to cover the road to Kożuchów. From there, heading towards Bulin, we will reach a charming village of that name. It is accessed by a renovated, narrow road, mostly running through the forest. The feeling of communing with a historical place appears already during the ride, because the moss-covered ruins peek out from between the trees.

Once there, we can feel that we have come to a horse’s corner – the inhabitants of the large Bulin Farm, i.e. agritourism. The historic manor house has been adapted into living quarters, barns and utility rooms.

When we turn left from the main road at the height of the farm, we can easily reach Devil’s Stone via an unpaved path. It is located on the road connecting Bulin with Stypułów. It is not fenced, and there are no signs pointing to it as a “tourist attraction”. . A small stake with a “Natural Monument” sign attached to the boulder confirms that we are in the right place. No tickets, no fence. Just Devil’s Stone and legends floating in the air.

The most famous legend related to the appearance of a huge boulder in Bulin is the story of the devil and his evil intentions towards the castle located in Kożuchów. . If you look closely at the stone, you can see something like claw marks on it.

Another parable says that . In addition, it is said that the boulder fulfills the wishes of lovers.

It is easy to guess that the legends originated from an attempt to understand how a boulder of such weight and circumference could have ended up in this place. Only the devil’s superhuman strength would be able to lift him. However, expert research clearly indicates that Devil’s Stone is an erratic boulder. These types of boulders are a real rarity and that is why Devil’s Stone was recognized as a Monument of Inanimate Nature.

When going on a trip to these areas, it is also worth seeing the alleged “destination” of Czart, i.e. the Castle in Kożuchów. . Today it is the seat of the Cultural Center in Kożuchów and the municipal library. The castle is open to visitors, so it is worth taking a look at what is hidden within its walls. Once a year, knights’ tournaments are held in the castle entourage, attracting history lovers.
