About the continuation “Gladiator” has been talked about since 2018. It was then, along with the information about the start of work on the script, that a short description of the plot of the planned film was presented. Its hero was to be Lucius, the nephew of Emperor Commodus, who is greatly influenced by the courage shown by Maximus. The main role will be played by Paul Mescal. At his side we will see, among others: Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, and Derek Jacobi.
Last spring it was announced that the cast had been joined by Denzel Washington. In the past, he starred in one of Ridley Scott’s films – “American Gangster” from 2007. Supposedly, he was initially skeptical about appearing in the second part of “Gladiator”. It was only when he read David Scarpa’s script that he changed his mind and accepted the director’s offer.
“Gladiator II” will most likely run 160 minutes. Its Polish premiere is scheduled for November 22.
Denzel Washington, now 69, admitted a few weeks ago that he will appear less and less often on screens. In turn, in the latest interview, given on the occasion of the promotion of the new part of “Gladiator”, the actor said that there are very few films left he would like to star in.
“I have very few movies left that I’m interested in doing,” he told Empire, adding, “A director has to inspire me. And Ridley did a lot of that.” Washington emphasized in the same interview that they had a great working relationship on the set of “American Gangster.”
