“Closer” from today on HBO Max. This movie shows complicated relationships

Movie “Closer” is an adaptation of Patrick Marber’s play, directed by Mike Nichols. It tells the story of two couples: writer Dan (Jude Law) and stripper Alice (Natalie Portman), and dermatologist Larry (Clive Owen) and photographer Annie (Julia Roberts). When Anna photographs Dan, their affair begins a spiral of lies and manipulation that complicates their relationships. Fascination, desire and uncertainty become the basis of the characters’ relationships, leading to emotional and dramatic confrontations.

Clive Owen won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role. Natalie Portman also won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress. Interestingly, Owen played Dan in the stage version and got the role of Larry in the film.

The film has gained cult status among relationship dramas and is often cited in discussions about the contemporary image of love and betrayal. At the time of its premiere, the vast majority of reviews were positive, but emphasized that it was a film “for viewers prepared for brutal honesty.”

The film “Closer” is available today on the HBO Max platform.
