Gdynia is the hometown of Bartosz M. Kowalski, born in 1984, whose first feature film, the controversial “Playground” (2016), won the Don Quixote Award of the Polish Federation of Film Discussion Clubs. The film also received the Wielki Jantar award at the Młodzi i Film festival, as well as a distinction at the Warsaw Film Festival.
Horror “Night silence”as Kowalski revealed, is inspired by a true story. – It’s a story about transience, presented in an adventure-monster package, under which we sketch a thought-provoking portrait of an old man and his place in today’s society. And we perversely clash this social commentary with the convention of horror – he explained.
Producer and screenwriter Mirella Zaradkiewicz had this to say about the fantastic elements in the film: – The main character, fighting 3D-generated monsters, goes through a process of accepting his fate, and we go with him.
In his last role, as Lucjan, Maciej Damięcki (“Rzeczpospolita babska”, “Rozmowy Zarządu”), an exceptional actor who died in November last year, played. On the film set, his partners included Zdzisław Wardejn, Włodzimierz Press and Anna Nehrebecka.
Lucjan, a retired stage actor, is placed in a nursing home by his son. The country residence seems like an idyllic place, with friendly staff ready to help and kind residents. However, it turns out that it hides a secret… Lucjan begins to be haunted by macabre visions. This coincides with the deaths of several residents. Lucjan will have to determine if his visions are real or if he is losing his mind.
