Carey Mulligan: There is no equal in the Netflix hit. A chance for an Oscar?

We remind you of the text from December 2023

In an interview with Variety devoted mainly to her work on “Maestro”, Carey Mulligan admitted that she was one of the first people who knew that Bradley Cooper was going to make this film. He told her this already in 2018, when he approached her with a ready script and a proposal for her to play the role of Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. In turn, in an interview with Deadline, she and her co-star recalled this meeting.

Cooper confessed that although he and Mulligan were not close friends, while working on the first drafts of the script, it was her he saw as the title love interest “Maestro”. He asked a mutual friend to contact the actress. He learned from him that she was then in New York, where she was exhibiting art. Cooper went to one of the performances.

After the play ended, he went to the dressing room to talk to the actress about her potential participation in the film.

The latest Netflix film receives mixed reviews, but most reviewers and viewers agree on one thing – Mulligan steals the whole show. The actress playing the role of Felicia (Leonard Bernstein’s wife), shows the whole range of a woman’s emotionswho had to cope with many problems and, in the end, a debilitating disease.

Her last scene in “Maestro” it brings tears to your eyes and is really masterfully shot. The chemistry between Bradley Cooper (Leonard Bernstein in the film) and Mulligan is real, so it is not difficult for the audience to believe in the characters’ emotions.

“Maestro” is undoubtedly a film created for the Oscars. It may not have a chance in the race for best film, but in acting terms Carey Mulligan can hopefully find her place.

Bradley Cooper’s new film about the life of Leonard Bernstein, “Maestro”, was released on Netflix on December 20, 2023. Netflix announces “Maestro” as a “love letter to life and art”, revealing that Bradley Cooper’s film is an “emotion-filled epic portrait of family and love”. In “Maestro” Cooper will play the role of Leonard Bernstein. He will play his wife, Felicia Montealegre Carey Mulligan (“Promising. Young. Woman”).
