Bill Skarsgard Gets In Shape For ‘The Crow’ Role, Talks About Preparation

The Skarsgards are the most famous Swedish acting clan. The head of the family, the legendary actor Stellan Skarsgård, He gained fame thanks to such productions as “Breaking the Waves”, “Thor”, “Rebel Without a Cause”, “Mamma Mia!” or the series “Chernobyl”. A big film hit of recent weeks with the Swede’s participation is the second part of “Dune”.

In recent years, the actor has appeared in the second part of “Deadpool”, the sequel to “It”, the Marvel film “Eternals”, the horror film “Barbarians” and the latest part of the “John Wick” series. The latest title with his participation has just hit the cinemas – “The Crow”. In the coming months, we will see him in two more hot film premieres: “Lord of War” and “Nosferatu”.

Bill Skarsgård in new “Raven” plays the main character of Eric Draven. As we read on the Variety website, the actor had to go on an extreme diet to get in the best shape possible for the role. Just before filming the aforementioned thriller, he worked on the set of “Boy Kills World.” He had already gained a lot of muscle mass. He used a high-protein, restrictive diet and meticulously followed a training plan.

“I would take Bill out to dinner. I would always order for him because I knew what he was eating,” Rupert Sanders, director of “The Crow,” told Variety. “It was steak tartare and raw eggs. He spent a lot of time in the gym. He ate very healthily and put all of us to shame when we ate burgers and hot dogs when we worked late in the summer in the Czech Republic,” he said.

“I had been training for a long time,” Skarsgård admitted. “Me and my trainer were adding a few pounds to the weight I had, but I didn’t want to get too big.”

The actor admitted that preparations were not the easiest. “It was difficult because they wanted Crow to be muscular, but Eric was not. I didn’t think the character had to be thin, but you can’t spread it out over six months like in ‘Raging Bull.’ I did weight training and ate a lot of protein,” he confessed.

Skarsgard celebrated the end of filming with… a beer. “I really liked what I ate, so I didn’t feel like I had to cheat. I didn’t eat sugar, but I’m not a big sweet tooth. I think my biggest cheat was an alcoholic beer. I celebrated after filming was over,” the actor said.
