Cumberbatch he first appeared on screens as Doctor Strange in 2016.
During one of this year’s interviews for Netflix, the British actor admitted that he really loves the character he plays. He also said that he enjoys playing him and is looking forward to playing him again next year.
Now these rumors have been officially confirmed and it looks like the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday” will see his hero face off against the returning Robert Downey Jr, who will play Doctor Doom.
“I think a lot of interesting things are going to happen and I can’t wait to see what happens next,” Benedict Cumberbatch recently revealed on the Japanese TV channel TV Groove. He also confirmed the participation of Chris Evans, whom we have seen so far as Captain America, and in the recent film “Deadpool and Wolverine” he returned to the role of Jonathan Storm.
Chris Evans’ hero from the latest film in the Deadpool series died in a quite brutal way, and it was probably his last appearance in the universe. In turn, as Captain America, he gave his shield to his friend and appointed him as his successor. In “Avengers: Doomsday”, Evans’ next role is “undisclosed”, but maybe like Robert Downey Jr. He will return as a villain.
Deadline also reported that Anthony Mackie, the actor who plays the current version of Captain America, Sam Wilson, will also return.
In 2022, it was announced that “Avengers: Kang’s Dynasty” would be the next Avengers film, likely continuing the storyline of Kang from the “Loki” series and the “Ant-Man and the Wasp” movie. Marvel announced the film’s new title at San Diego ComicCon in July 2024, as well as the surprise casting of Downey as Victor von Doom. Doctor Doom is known for being the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four, so it’s more than possible that Pedro Pascal and his crew will also appear in “Avengers: Doomsday.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” will hit theaters on May 1, 2025.
