After many years, Tim Burton finally found the missing piece to resurrect Beetlejuice. During the promotion of the new film, the stars of the first installment repeatedly thanked Jenna Ortega for helping to make the long-awaited sequel.
Noting that the actress was not yet born when the original 1988 film was released, Michael Keaton told USA Today that the young actress was an important part of the entire production and they couldn’t have started filming without her.
“We had to wait until you were born” – she joked to her 21-year-old friend Catherine O’Hara.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Michael Keaton continued to heap praise on his young co-star, noting that she had an energy that fit the film and that she was perfectly cast.
“When people say, ‘well, she was born to play this role,’ I’m starting to wonder if she was literally born to play this. It’s so obvious. She’s a really nice young woman, and she’s also really intelligent. And she has that something. All she had to do was show up and I said, ‘Oh yes, she gets it. It fits her like a glove’“.
After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetzes return home to Winter River. Lydia is still haunted by the memory of Beetlejuice. Now her life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers a mysterious model of the town in her attic, accidentally opening a portal to the afterlife. Trouble is in the air in both worlds, so it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the insidious demon returns to cause chaos like only he can – we learn from the official description of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”.
The film can be seen in cinemas today, September 6!
