A few days ago, the mourning family addressed the funeral participants in an obituary published in “Gazeta Wyborcza”. They were asked to spend the money on a more noble cause instead of buying wreaths and flowers.
Barbara Horawianka was born on May 14, 1930 in Katowice. She began her acting career in 1951 with performances at the Rhapsody Theater in Krakow. Over the years, she has performed on the stage of the Stary Theater in Krakow, the Teatr im. Słowackiego, in Łódź, at the Nowy Theater. From 1963, she worked in the capital’s theaters: National, Dramatic, Wola, Targówek and Polskie.
Horawianka’s most outstanding roles include: appearance in “Lovers from Marona”, where she played the main character of Ola Czekaj, a teacher in Marona. In turn, in the later “Mrs. Latter’s Pension” by Stanisław Różewicz from 1982, she played the title role of Emma Latter, the owner of the boarding house. The actress also appeared in films such as “Colonel Kwiatkowski” and “Loneliness for Two”.
Barbara Horawianka did not shy away from TV series roles. She is remembered by viewers as Maria Jarosz, a laboratory technician in the cult “W labiryncie”. A few years earlier, she played the role of Ania’s mother in the series “Daleko od szosy”. She also starred in contemporary television productions such as “M jak miłość”, “Plebania” or “Na dobre i na evil”.
Privately, she was related to Mieczysław Voit, who died in 1991. They met in 1951. At that time, she was still a student of the Theater Studio operating at the Rhapsody Theater in Krakow, and he had already played several great roles and was considered a rising star.
It so happened that the actress who was to appear with Voit in a play consisting of fragments of Shakespeare’s plays had to resign from the role. She recommended 20-year-old Basia, whom she knew from school, to replace her.
“This spectacle connected us for several dozen years,” Horawianka recalled on the 30th anniversary of her beloved’s death in “Dziennik Trybuny”.
After the death of her beloved (January 31, 1991, Mieczysław Voit passed away in his sleep, lying in bed at her side), Barbara Horawianka withdrew from public life, gave up her job at the theater and disappeared from the screens for several years.
