Larraín’s new film, titled “Maria”, will present “the turbulent, beautiful and tragic life story of one of the greatest opera singers, presented from the perspective of her last days in Paris in 1970. She wants to come to terms with her own identity and life.” The production script was written by Steven Knight, who had already collaborated with Larrain on the film “Spencer”about Princess Diana.
“Combining my two deepest and most personal passions – cinema and opera – was my long-awaited dream. The fact that I can do it with Angelina, an extremely brave and interesting artist, is a fascinating opportunity. A real gift,” admitted the director.
Angelina Jolie she added that she takes responsibility for the life and legacy of Maria (Callas) with full seriousness. “I will do my best to meet expectations,” said the actress, adding that she had long admired the work Pablo Larraín.
The trailer shows viewers flashbacks to Callas’ life. The world premiere of the film took place at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where the production received a standing ovation.
“Maria” will debut in selected American theaters on November 27, and will appear on Netflix on December 11.
