“Amanda Knox case”: review. Is it worth watching the Disney+series?

Thing Amandy Knox It was widely heard around the world. In the Italian media she was hailed as the nickname “Foxy Knoxy”. A picture of a calculated and unbreakable young woman was created, focusing more on her private life than on facts. The American press, in turn, often depicted it as a victim of a media hunt and justice errors. Although 18 years have passed since the tragic events, the matter still raises extreme emotions. Despite the perpetrator’s indication, there is still a group of people questioning his exclusive guilt.

Amanda Knox, then a twenty -year -old student from Seattle, came in 2007 to exchange in Italian Perugia. She rented a flat with other students, including the British Meredith Kercher. On November 1, 2007, Kercher was brutally murdered in their joint home. The tragedy immediately became the subject of international headlines. Knox and her then boy, Raffaele Sollecito, were arrested and accused of complicity in the crime. The trial took years, he was full of controversy and doubts about the evidence. Knox was first convicted in 2009, two years later they were acquitted, then in 2014 it was again found to be guilty that the Italian Supreme Court finally cleaned it in 2015. Rudy Hermann Ghede was responsible. He received a sentence of 16 years of freedom reduced after the appeal.

So far, many productions have been created on this subject, including the loud Netflix document from 2016. The latest feature series “Amanda Knox case” It was based on the autobiography of Knox itself, published in 2013, and was presented mainly from its perspective. Importantly, KNOX plays the role of an executive co -producer, thanks to which she had a real impact on how her story was told. Monica Lewinsky, a character who, like Knox, experienced an intensive media hunt was also among the producers.

The eight -episode series “Amanda Knox” is now available on the Disney+platform. We assess whether it is worth devoting your time to him.

Before I reached for the “Amanda Knox case”, I already had a general idea about events in Perugia and in this layer there was little new information for me. After seeing eight episodes, it is still difficult to clearly determine her guilt or innocence, but the way the processes are presented, he can shock many viewers and make even the slightest symptoms of this woman (although I think it is a deliberate procedure of the creators).

In the series, all attention focuses on Amanda (played by Grace van Patten). The fact that Knox itself co -created production can be interpreted in two ways. On the one hand, she could faithfully reflect the course of events because she experienced them herself. On the other hand, it is also an ideal opportunity to whiten your image wherever possible. Unfortunately, “Amanda Knox case” practically does not introduce the victim’s figure. Meredith Kercher remains in the shade, and the center of the narrative is occupied by Amanda, her family and Raffaele Sollecito.

The most shocking are episodes showing the KNOX interrogations. Although she knew the Italian language a bit, the communication barrier repeatedly proved to be overcome. Policemen, including women, did not intend to make it easier. The series shows how Amanda was subjected to great pressure during interrogations. Under her influence, she repeated the accusations that perfectly fitted into the narrative of the prosecutor’s office. The officers themselves had a lot behind their ears and were it not for their serious oversights, including At the crime scene, perhaps the attention would not be turned to Knox to such a large extent. The influence of the media that created the image of “perverse American”, capable of the worst deeds, is equally emphasized. Meanwhile, in fact Amanda was a twenty -year -old student who was not always aware of the seriousness of the situation and at times she just behaved … strange and even irrationally.

The creators did a great job when it comes to casting. A young actress, Grace Van Patten, was planted as Amanda, who looks like a woman. When it comes to acting skills, it is very fine. It is worth appreciating that it plays a role in English and Italian.

“Amanda Knox case” is an uneven series. The production maintains a good pace in episodes devoted to the case and pending proceedings, but clearly slows down when Amanda goes to prison and is waiting for further movements of lawyers. The last two episodes seem unnecessary. They show the heroine’s life after returning to the United States, but this could be included in the 15-minute epilogue of the last episode. In addition, at times the climate of the series causes almost fairy -tale tones, which do not match the serious subject of production. It can be assumed that the creators wanted to show the contrast between life before and after the murder or defense of Amanda, but as a result they completely shallow the heroine’s psychological layer to the conclusion “was too young.”

I think that people who are well familiar with the Amanda Knox case will not find anything new in the series. Production is rather addressed to viewers who do not know the details or only heard about this matter. Technically, the series is at a good level, but does not stand out with anything special from other True Crime titles.
