“Alien: Romulus” Creators Already Thinking About Sequel

Alvarez admitted that the studio’s management wasn’t sure about the final fight presented in the film. “At first (they were hesitant), not that they didn’t like it. They were afraid that it was a bit too much. Do we have to go there? I was like, yeah, now that you asked if we should, I know I’ll do it,” he revealed.

“If you get an Alien movie from a corporation like Disney and they respond enthusiastically to all your ideas, you’ve failed. We tried to go as far as we could and I’m glad we did,” he continued.

Alvarez also admitted that he and screenwriter Rodo Sayagues were already thinking about a potential sequel to the film. “As soon as we finished shooting, we started thinking, ‘What do you think will happen when they get to the planet Yvaga? Will it be great? Or will it be a terrible place?’ We think it’s terrible, but the characters believe it’s wonderful and fantasize about it. We immediately started thinking about where it would take them and what would happen. And after a few minutes, it hit us that this sounds like a sequel,” he said.

He also added that he is not a supporter of the assembly line production of films. “My philosophy is that you shouldn’t make a sequel two years after the premiere. You have to gain some distance. The audience has to really want it. There were seven years between ‘The Eighth Passenger Nostromo’ and ‘The Decisive Battle.’ But we definitely have ideas about where we want to go.”

The titular “Romulus” is a research station of the Weyland-Yutani corporation, which is well known to fans of the “Alien” series. Its wreck drifts in space and attracts the attention of a group engaged in plundering abandoned bases. Its members do not know that deadly danger lurks inside the station.

The film is set between the events of “The Eighth Passenger in the Nostromo” and “The Final Battle.” Starring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

“Alien: Romulus” released in Polish cinemas on August 15, 2024.
