During the ongoing film festival in the Serbian city of Niš actor and director Dragan Bjelogrlić announced that he had started working on a film about the recently deceased Alain Delon and the scandal that shook France at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. What is this about?
Bjelogrlić said that the film’s protagonists were to be Alain Delon and his friend and bodyguard Stefan Markovic – a Serb born in Belgrade. His mysterious death in 1968 caused a scandal in France, concerning among others Georges Pompidou, who became the country’s president a year later.
“This is a very delicate and controversial topic. We are doing everything in our power to make this film. If it happens, it will reveal another side of history about which we know so little,” Bjelogrlić announced.
As reported by PAP, “after Stefan Marković’s death, some photos were found in his car, allegedly showing the wife of Pompidou, the prime minister and later president of France. Marković was known for organizing luxurious parties during which guests were filmed by hidden cameras, which could provide compromising materials.”
The death of the bodyguard of the French film star sparked many rumors in France. The suspects in the Serb’s death were the French actor Alain Delon and his friend, Francois Marcantoni. However, due to lack of evidence, the case has not been solved to this day.
