The winner’s name was announced on Friday evening during a gala at the Silesian Theater. Stanisław Wyspiański in Katowice. The artist received a statuette designed by Erwin Sówka and PLN 50,000. PLN – funded by the Katowice local government. The audience gave her a standing ovation.
The distinction was awarded for the fourth time, on the 95th birthday of the award’s patron, who died in 2018. This year, the five nominees for the Award were: Kazimierz Kutz, apart from Holland there were: singer Daria from Silesia, actor Krzysztof Głuchowski, composer Aleksander Nowak and actress Joanna Szczepkowska.
During the gala, the honorary distinction “Ambassador of Silesia” was also presented – it was awarded to MEP Jan Olbrycht, who in previous years was, among others, mayor of Cieszyn and marshal of the voivodeship Silesian. Olbrych pointed out that an ambassador is not at home, but somewhere outside. Kutz was such an ambassador of Silesia – added the politician. He expressed satisfaction that his work was also appreciated.
Award named after Kazimierz Kutz aims to honor artists for outstanding artistic achievements that play an important role in the current public debate, contributing to building a democratic and tolerant society. The award promotes artists who combine artistic activity with social involvement, presenting an attitude close to its patron.
The organizers of the award are the Silesian Theater, the Katowice local government and the University of Silesia.
