“Girl with a needle” This is the third full-length work of the Polish-Swedish director, Magnus von Horn, who was gaining education at the Film and Television Directing Department in Łódź. The film framed with virtuoso black and white photos of Michał Dymk (“Io”, “Supernova”), boldly mixes elements characteristic of crime, noir film, neorealist parable or even an expressionist thriller. The story happening right after the First World War is based on real events that shocked the twentieth -century Denmark. The title girl with a needle, Karoline, becomes pregnant, loses her work in the factory and is left alone. The film impresses with acting creations; On the screen you can see, among others Victoria Carmen Sonne or Trine Dyrholm.
Our compatriots acted at “Girl with a needle” in almost every production division; finally Over 200 people from Poland worked on the film. Among them are, among others: editor Agnieszka Glińska (“As far as possible”, “IO”), stage designer Jagna Dobesh (“The Silent Twins”, “My wonderful life”) or the creator of costumes Małgorzata Fudala (“Belfer III”, “Klangor”).
Magnus von Horn’s film enjoys recognition around the world, as indicated by prestigious awards and distinctions. The production was nominated for the Oscar, the Golden Globe and the Golden Palm. Eventually she won, among others Two European film awards, the Golden Frog during the Energa Camerimage 2024 festival, ten individual awards at the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and eleven statuettes of Polish Film Awards Eagles 2025, including the best film, female roles, direction and photos.

(…) Probably the most resonated in the Danish-Polish-Swedish co-production ‘girl with a needle’ presented in this year’s Cannean competition. Shocking, brutal, and sometimes even drastic in the way of illustration of stories about unwanted pregnancies, almost a woman to make herself and attempt to stay good in a world full of evil ” – wrote Kuba Armata in a review for Interia.
