A sea creature emerges from the church
Church of St. the holy apostles Peter and Paul look nothing special from the outside. It can be said that there are plenty of such facilities in Poland. However, once again the well-known saying that you should not judge a book by its cover is true.
The interior of the temple hides . It was built in the first half of the 18th century, perfectly fitting the style of baroque splendor. The structure was made by sculptor Michael Kössler on behalf of the local parish priest and the city council.

The monumental wooden work, covered with polychrome and gilding, has the shape of a huge fish with visible teeth and scales (it may be a whale, although opinions on this subject are divided). The wide open mouth and all the decorations around make it . It’s hard to believe that we are not in the very center of a show inspired by themes combining fantasy and horror.
A unique facility in Europe
This motif is not accidental. It refers to the biblical story of the prophet Jonah, who was swallowed by a large fish. After three days, he regained his freedom, which was to symbolize his rebirth and conversion. The whole work is complemented by sculptures depicting the four evangelists and ornamental details typical of Baroque art. It is therefore assumed that it is not only a place for the priest to preach, but also.

There are few similar works in Poland. Even when it was created, it must have made a great impression on the faithful, especially when the preacher “emerged” from the mouth of a fish.
An unusual sight in Duszniki-Zdrój

Thanks to this, the sermon preached from this place takes on a deeper meaning, and the sermon itself does not lose its symbolic power and does not become commonplace.
