A 17-year-old from Cyprus wants to make a sensation at Eurovision. Who is Silia Kapsis?

In 2024, Sweden will host the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. The iconic event will take place at the Malmö Arena.

Eurovision was hosted here in 2013 after Loreen's previous triumph.

The semi-finals will be held on May 7 and 9, 2024, and the Grand Final is scheduled for May 11. The theme of Eurovision this year is “UnitedByMusic”.

37 countries will take part in the competition, but without the participation of Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Slovakia. Already known participants include representatives of Cyprus, Greece, Georgia, the Netherlands and Great Britain. Luxembourg returns to Eurovision after a 31-year break. Poland will be represented by Luna with the song “The Tower”which will appear in the first semi-final.

Silia Kapsisa 17-year-old artist with Greek-Cypriot roots from Sydney, will represent Cyprus. She started her music career in 2022 with a single “Who Am I?”. Since then she has released three songs, a “Disco Dancer” is her most recognizable hit.

Silia not only sings, but also has acting experience, including appearing in a film “Pearl Gates” and collaboration with Nickelodeon in Australia. In 2023, she was nominated for an award at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Due to her beauty and young age, Silia may turn out to be a Eurovision discovery like our Blanka. It's hard not to notice the similarities between the two artists.

In the first semi-final, Cyprus will present a song “Liar”. This is a work coming from Greece Dimitris Kontopouloswho already has a lot of experience in creating Eurovision hits.

Silia herself says that “Liar” is a song for people tired of lies and toxic relationships. The music video was directed by Kostas Karydas. The setting for the clip was a modern casino in Limassol. Choreography for “Liar”both in the music video and on the Eurovision stage, were prepared by Guy Groove and Kelly Sweeney from Los Angeles.

“Liar” has been generating a lot of interest for some time now. Firstly, the composition was leaked to the Internet earlier than planned, and the second reason was mysterious turmoil regarding the history of this piece. It's probably the same song which was sung by Melissa Manzukis while fighting to represent Greece in 2023.
