92-year-old Novak debuted in front of the camera in the 1950s. Her most important films include Joshuy Logan’s “Picnic” from 1955 and “dizziness” by Alfred Hitchcock from 1958.
“I am very, very moved by the granting of a golden lion from such a respectable festival. The fact that at this moment of my life my work was appreciated, it is a fulfillment of my dreams. I will value every moment spent in Venice. My heart is filled with joy” – the actress said in a special statement.
“Kim Novak was one of the beloved icons of Hollywood films (…) She never refrained from the criticism of the great labels. (…) Independent and non -conformist founded her own production company and began a strike to negotiate the remuneration equal to her colleagues from the set” – wrote about Novak Alberto Barber, artistic director of the Ministry of Finance in Venice.
The event program will include, among others, “Kim Novak’s Vertigo” Alexandre’and Philippe’Oh, a document devoted to her career. Its author has been visiting Venice many times with his films about known productions and personality of cinema. His “chain reactions” about “Texan Motor Motor Massacre” received in 2024 a prize for the best document in the section ‘Venezia Classici’.
The actress will not be the only winner of the Honorary Golden Bear this year. The prize will also be received by German director Werner Herzog. At the head of the jury of the Main Competition Alexander Payne, the creator of “Wilderness” and “Winter Solstice”. We will know the festival program in July. It is expected that it will contain new films of Yorgos Lanthimos, Jim Jarmusha, Paola Sorrentino, Luki Guadagnino, Chloé Zhao, Benny’ego safdie’Ego, Julian Schnabel and Agnieszka Holland.
