Rapper Young Dolph Dies at 36 in Memphis Shooting

Young Dolph, a highly gifted and outstanding singer, died recently, leaving his family and fans in complete disbelief. He rose to prominence as one of the most promising rappers in recent years, was shot and died in his hometown on Wednesday, at the age of 36 years.

Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. popularly known by his stage name “Young Dolph” was an American rapper. He was born on July 27, 1985, in Chicago.

Dolph had a tough childhood, Dolph’s parents were addicted to crack cocaine and he only saw them every few weeks as a child, thus he was mostly raised by his grandmother. Thornton and his wife Mia Jaye had two children, Tre Tre and Ari.

Young Dolph’s Career

Young Dolph’s debut mix-tape, Paper Route Campaign, was released in 2008. In 2010, he formally founded Paper Route Empire, an independent record company that is not linked with a major musical label, and released Welcome 2 Dolph World the following year.

Dolph began to develop his own rap flow with the release of the mix-tapes High Class Street Music and High Class Street Music Episode 2 in 2011, moving away from the style of Memphis rappers Three 6 Mafia and 8 Ball and MJG and toward a personal style described as “vociferous” with a “magnetic delivery and uniquely deep voice.”

After meeting at family gatherings, Young Dolph signed his cousin-by- marriage and fellow Memphis rapper Key Glock to his Paper Route Empire label in 2017.

Young Dolph and Key Glock, reached number 47 on the Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2018.

Dolph claimed in the same year that he was offered a $22 million label deal, which he turned down. Dolph stated that he would rather remain on his own independent label, “To be honest, it was a fantastic bargain. But there’s something else I’m seeing.

 

What Happened at the Day of Murder?

The incident took place at Makeda’s Butter Cookies, Maurice Hill, the owner told FOX13 that he walked into the shop to buy cookies.

The owner in his statement said that “someone drove up and shot and killed him at the South Memphis bakery.”

Police arrived at the crime scene around 12:24 p.m. Local time and discovered one male victim, who was pronounced dead on the spot, according to the police.

In a statement released on Twitter, Memphis Police chief Cerelyn Davis said that “the preliminary information indicates that the victim was Young Dolph, and they were trying to confirm that after the identification process is finished.”

FOX13 got photos of the alleged shooters, two individuals who stood outside Makeda’s and open fired towards Dalph.

Memphis police published preliminary details on the shooting shortly before 5 p.m. According to authority, Young Dalph was the target.

Mayor Strickland stated, “To honor all victims of violent crime, I ask for calm in our city to allow the Memphis Police Department to do their duty to capture those responsible.”

The mayor of Memphis, Jim Strickland, confirmed the news, which was first reported by Fox 13 Memphis. The mayor twitted “The tragic shooting death of rap artist Young Dolph serves as another reminder of the pain that violent crime brings with it.”

Young Dolph Survived 100 Rounds

A suspect fired over 100 shots into a fully armored SUV in Charlotte, North Carolina, in February of 2017, sparing Thornton’s life. Blac Youngsta, a Gotti associate, was one of three men arrested in Charlotte for their claimed roles in the shooting.

Thornton was shot numerous times outside of a Hollywood hotel in Los Angeles later that year, leaving him with serious injury. He was then recovered fully, and following media stories speculated that the event was related to his long-running musical and personal quarrel with Mims.
