Wojciech Szczęsny is the hero of the film. He follows in the footsteps of Lewandowski and Błaszczykowski

Prime Video has just announced that work is underway on its next own production, a documentary about Wojciech Szczęsny – one of the greatest Polish goalkeepers in history. Viewers will have the opportunity to learn behind the scenes of the career of an expressive and extremely recognizable athlete who played for clubs such as Arsenal, AS Roma and Juventus. Shooting for the yet untitled film has already begun. The premiere is scheduled for 2025 exclusively on the Prime Video platform. The film will be available on Prime Video as part of an Amazon Prime subscription.

The documentary will allow Prime customers to learn not only the authentic story of Szczęsny as an athlete, but also as a father, son and husband. Thanks to the production, viewers will also have the opportunity to discover the private face of Marina Łuczenko-Szczęsna, the goalkeeper's wife and a very popular singer and influencer, as well as the five-year-old son Liam, who already shows great football talent. The film crew will accompany the Szczęsny family in the most important moments of their sports and private lives: just before the birth of their second child and the first whistle for Euro 2024, where Szczęsny will play with the Polish national team. In the film we will see their life in Turin, where the whole family, just like in Poland, is extremely recognizable, but also emotions, conversations on difficult topics and emotions. There will also be threads such as Szczęsny's conflict with his father Maciej, or his difficult beginnings after moving to a foreign country as a teenager.

The film about Wojciech Szczęsny will be a story about an extraordinary talent and fan favorite, whose path has not always been a success – both on and off the pitch. Szczęsny's career included stumbles, scandals and media harassment. However, his persistence in pursuing his goal and uncompromising character led him to the biggest football arenas, allowing him to fulfill his childhood dream – to go on the pitch in an Arsenal shirt.

“Why did I decide to make this film? Because I hope that in this form I will be able to tell the whole truth about myself in a way that does not hurt other people. The film, unlike the book, gives the opportunity to show real, human emotions. I I may have opinions that are – let's call them – controversial for some, but everyone who plays a role in my life will have a chance to stand in front of the camera, express themselves and show their perspective, says Wojciech Szczęsny.

“After the spectacular success of our previous films about Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Błaszczykowski, we are happy that we will soon show another documentary about one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Wojciech Szczęsny,” adds Tara Erer, Head of Originals for Great Britain and Northern Europe, Prime Video . -“We have noticed how much our clients are interested not only in the extraordinary careers of athletes, but also in their personal experiences and the impact they have had both on and off the pitch. Wojtek Szczęsny's story will be engaging, honest, and will provide inspiration for all viewers PrimeVideo.

“I am very happy that, as Papaya Films, we are joining forces with Prime Video for the third time and once again co-creating a film about a talented, outstanding footballer. Through sports realities, we can tell universal stories about striving for a goal, building character and not giving up. I am convinced “that Wojtek Szczęsny's story will reach not only die-hard fans, but also those who are not normally passionate about sports,” assures Kacper Sawicki, creative producer of the film.

The new documentary is the third installment of the cooperation between Prime Video and Papaya Films, after the film “Lewandowski. Unknown” about the behind-the-scenes of Robert Lewandowski's career, which appeared on the platform in March 2023, and the documentary “Kuba” – about another distinguished Polish football representative, Jakub Błaszczykowski, who debuted on Prime Video in February 2024.
