Oceanor rather Oceana Mahlmann, is a German singer. Her father is from Martinique and her mother worked as a clothes designer in Paris. Ocean she grew up in France, the USA and Hamburg (like her mother, she was born in Germany).
The artist's first single – “Cry Cry” from 2009 – brought her considerable popularity. She performed with the above-mentioned number at the Festival in Sopot, where she received the Audience Award. Later, Oceana took part in the Polish edition of “Dancing with the Stars”, but withdrew from it due to her pregnancy.
After giving birth to her child, Oceana released her second album “My House”containing the hit “Endless Summer”, the official anthem of the European Football Championships taking place in Poland and Ukraine.
When there was a media battle in Poland over whether the song “Koko Euro Cool” is worthy of being the official hit of the Polish national team, Oceana won the minds of listeners and national radio stations with her song with a catchy chorus.
A song based on a melody from a song Alexandra Stan “Saxobeat” and a sample from the group's “Blaue Moschee”. Die Vogel was number one on Polish Airplay. A music video was also recorded for the song. It was created primarily at the National Stadium and in the Old Town in Warsaw. In addition, frames from other host cities were also pasted into the clip.
– The song was created in England. He helped me Blair (Mackichan – note ed.), a true genius, a sensational composer. Initially, it was a reggae song that we composed on the piano, and its original title was “Last Summer”. After some time, I decided that the song sounded too negative and that something was missing. After a few days, an idea came to my mind, or maybe “Endless Summer”. The chords of the composition sounded beautiful on the piano. We had a very pleasant time working there. We were in a summer mood, in a reggae atmosphere. We imagined we were on the beach and everyone was having a good time. And that's how this song was born – she told Interia about the song.
– A few months later, the results of our work were heard by people from UEFA, who especially liked the chorus. I feel that its strength lies in its simplicity. Anyone can sing this refrain. Of course it wasn't easy. Everyone wanted their song to become the anthem of the event, and we were constantly asked to introduce new changes. So we were constantly running to the studio and making changes. The title acted as a curse. And suddenly at some point everything worked. The song was ready and the activists fell in love with it. I performed it live in front of them and sponsors. When I heard that it would be the official anthem of the event, I was overjoyed. I realized that I would be able to reach a huge number of people with it – she revealed the behind-the-scenes of choosing her hit as a Euro hit.
– I have to love my songs because I express myself through them. I could approach things professionally and do them well even if I didn't like them, but that wouldn't be enough. This love is needed, she commented.
“My manager told me that it sounded like a football hit. My record company listened to it and sent it to UEFA, where it was chosen as the official Euro hit,” she said in Mateusz Szymkowiak from PNŚ.
After the end of Euro 2012, Oceana disappeared from the Polish media, just as the song's popularity faded shortly after the tournament and holidays. “Endless Summer”. In 2014, the singer unsuccessfully fought in Germany to go to Eurovision.
Three years later, her third album saw the light of day “Can't Stop Thinking About You”but it didn't make a splash.
“Oceana's diversity, despite all the earlier, sometimes different points in her career, has always attracted a lot of attention and interest in the artist. As a dancer, choreographer, actress, but above all, a singer who is able to draw on her creative and multi-ethnic roots and experiences, she has gained the sympathy of many fans” – the album was announced.
