“The Bridgertons”: Costume movies and series similar to the Netflix hit

“Favorite” is a thrilling costume thriller directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. According to international critics, the director retained his original style, taking the audience to England from the beginning of the 18th century. The throne is occupied by the ailing Queen Anne (Olivia Colman), and her friend and confidant is Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz). The women's relationship is tested when Sarah's cousin Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives at the court. Women begin to fight for the queen's favor.

British hit “Downton Abbey” won the hearts of fans around the world. More than once, its scriptwriters have proven that they are not afraid to tackle difficult topics or decisions that shocked and saddened viewers. The series is set at the fictional Downton Abbey estate in Yorkshire between 1912 and 1926. The plot focuses on the life of an aristocratic family, with historical events as the background. The main roles were played by: Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jim Carter and Maggie Smith.

After six seasons and several nominations for the most important awards in the film industry (BAFTA, Emmy), the series written by Julian Fellowes has come to an end. Two feature-length films were made: “Downton Abbey” and “Downton Abbey: A New Age”which are a continuation of the events of the series.

“Downton Abbey” is available on SkyShowtime and HBO Max.

“Marie Antoinette” is a film based on a biography prepared by British historian Antonia Fraser. Kirsten Dunst starred in the main role, and her on-screen partner was Jason Schwartzman. A young Austrian princess marries a French prince. She soon becomes the heroine of numerous sensations and scandals, which arouses the reluctance of her subjects.

Outlander” is a series adaptation of a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon about the adventures of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and James Fraser (Sam Heughan). Claire is a war nurse who lives in 1945. Suddenly she finds herself in 1743 and discovers that she is in mortal danger. The series takes place in two timelines and is a combination of romance, historical genre and science fiction elements.

“Outlander” is available on Netflix.

Series “huge” shows the path taken by Catherine the Great from an unknown outsider to the longest reigning woman in Russian history. The production uses only selected and few historical facts.

It is primarily a fictional and satirical story about a young romantic girl who came to Russia to enter into an arranged marriage with Tsar Peter. Hoping to find love and happiness, in their place he discovers a rather dangerous, depraved and backward world that he sets out to change.

It starred Elle Fanning as Tsarina Catherine and Nicholas Hoult as Tsar Peter. Their on-screen partners are: Phoebe Fox, Adam Godley, Gwilym Lee, Charity Wakefield, Douglas Hodge, Sacha Dhawan, Sebastian de Souza, Bayo Gbadamosi and Belinda Bromilow.

“huge” is available on HBO Max.

A film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel “Pride and Prejudice” directed by Joe Wright, was the first theatrical version in 65 years. The five Bennet sisters – Elizabeth, Lizzie (Keira Knightley), Jane (Rosamund Pike), Lydia (Jena Malone), Mary (Talulah Riley), and Kitty (Carey Mulligan) – were raised by their mother (Brenda Blethyn), who made it her mission to she set herself the task of finding them husbands and securing their future.

However, the spiritual and intelligent Elizabeth, encouraged by her father (Donald Sutherland), looks at reality from a slightly broader perspective. Soon, the mysterious Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen) stands in her way and turns her love life upside down.
