Summer with Muses: They are the hope of cinema! Who will win the Young Poland Film Competition?

Like every year, the film-themed West Pomerania invites you to Nowogard for Film, Music, Painting Festival Summer with Muses. Discussions will take place not only around feature-length films, but also short films presented as part of 10th Young Poland Film CompetitionThe screenings will take place on July 10 and 11 at the Orzeł Cinema in the Nowogard Culture Center, and the winner will be announced at the closing gala on July 14.

“The creators of the qualified films tell about relationships between children and parents, but also about the sometimes brutal, sometimes full of questions and confusion world of teenagers. The competition program also includes stories about love, sadness will be intertwined with hope” – he says about the films Dagmara Romanowska, film journalist and curator of the Young Poland Film Competition programme“I think that each viewer will find here their own story, a plot that will stimulate their imagination, move them, delight them, and also allow them to discover new talents and look differently at already recognized artists. We invite you to Nowogard for two days of competition screenings.”

The short films that will appear on screen include: Catherine Figure, Andrew Grabowski, Edyta Jungowska, Piotr Glowacki, Grzegorz Damięcki, Darya Polunina, Marcin Czarnik, Michal Sikorski and Adam Bobik.

A novelty and perhaps a surprise of this year’s edition of the Competition will be films made by Polish authors outside Poland, as well as short films directed with Poles and in Poland, in our film schools, by students from outside the country. “The world is changing, the landscape of Polish short film is changing. Young filmmakers no longer feel so strongly connected to one place. They set off into the world or come to us. This situation was reflected in our selection, which in turn results from the applications,” comments Dagmara Romanowska. One hundred feature films were submitted to the competition.

“After the competition screenings, there are always interesting discussions about films in the lobby of the Orzeł Cinema of the Nowogard Culture Centre. I am counting on that this year as well,” emphasises Dagmara Romanowska. “Although I do not want to single out any of the films, the choice is up to the viewers and the jury, I must note that the Competition also includes a representative of the Szczecin film community, the short film “Bridges”. Maybe the audience will recognise the places where the photos were taken?” – she adds.

The winners of the previous editions of the Contest are now making new films and series. It is enough to mention only Piotr Domalewski, Damian Kocur Whether Tadeusz Łysiak. Their films could be watched in Nowogard. In turn, Michal Toczekwinner of the Grand Prix for the film “Being Someone” will sit in the jury of this year’s edition of the Young Poland Film Competition together with Lidia Duda, Magdalena Szymków and Jakub Demjanczuk.

Traditionally, the Youth Jury, which will include students of the Second General Secondary School in Nowogard: Maria Klimczak, Ernest Stolf and Aleks Bonifrowski, will also award their distinction at the festival.

Let us recall that among the winners of the previous years, apart from Michał Toczek, there were such films and directors as: “Victoria” by Carolina Porcari – with the striking creations of Katarzyna Figura and Małgorzata Bogdańska, “The Dress” by Tadeusz Łysiaka film that competed for an Oscar, and also “Little Finger” by Tomasz Cichoń, “Grandmother’s Day” by Miłosz Sakowski, “The Black Witch” by Joanna Satanowska, “60 kilos of nothing” by Piotr Domalewski, “1410” by Damian Kocur and “Marcel” by Marcin Mikulski.
