Physical Winamp player created with Raspberry Pi. A note of nostalgia

Winamp is a computer program that the older ones are probably familiar with. It triumphed on Windows in the late 1990s and early this century. Then the project was lost, and although attempts were made to reactivate it in various ways, little came of it and the software has not yet returned to favor. But what about a physical music player inspired by this project?

Winamp became an inspiration for Rodrigo Méndez, who decided to create a computer. This is how a gadget called , was created, which at first glance resembles a car radio.

Linamp is based on the Raspberry Pi microcomputer, which is often the basis for similar and very unusual projects. The fourth version of the “raspberry” was used here, and it allows interaction using fingers. At a time when Winamp was extremely popular, control was done with a cursor.

The modder also used a 32 GB microSD memory card, which was placed in the Raspberry Pi 4. The casing is retro-style. It must be admitted that the whole thing looks great and works, as you can see in the video below shared on the author's channel.

Rodrigo Méndez did not rest on his laurels and plans to develop his own invention. Linamp is already able to play music files in various formats, including MP3 and FLAC. It can also handle music from CDs.

The author of the invention is thinking about increasing the functionality of the player. Linamp, which will allow for wireless connectivity and music streaming. Méndez also takes into account .

It must be admitted that the project is very ingenious. Of course, don't expect Linamp to hit stores where you can buy it. Those interested can only try to create a similar device with their own efforts. It is worth adding that the author is here to help and some time ago he was happy to answer questions related to the player.
