A series about Polish rap was created. Netflix will tell the story of Young Leosia, TEDE, Sokół and others

Rap culture is a very developed part of the music industry. It is not only about hip-hop work, but also about many other elements that make up “all this rap”. Creators of this music genre sometimes create their own, independent empires, which are known only to a few who know where to look for underground work. Others achieve multi-million Internet reach and fill the largest concert venues in Poland during their performances.

Netflix decided to tell the story of the Polish rap community in an upcoming documentary “All this rap”. Producers show the rap culture in our country by giving a voice to its representatives. The history of hip-hop will be shown from the perspective of the direct experiences of people who are part of it. The voices of musicians who were the “first generation of rap” in Poland will be presented and they fought against stereotypes to pave the way for their successors. We will also learn how the current generation takes advantage of its extraordinary fame and creates trends, elevating rap to the position of the most popular genre among young people.

“It’s a story about rap with words Falcon, TED, Widows, Szczyla, Young Leosi and many others” – we read in the description of the documentary on the website of the New Horizons film festival. This is where the pre-premiere screening of three episodes of the series will take place. It is scheduled for July 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the New Horizons cinema in Wrocław. The first and second episodes will be presented to viewers and fourth.

The director of the upcoming documentary “All That Rap” is Piotr SzubstarskiThe exact release date of the series on Netflix has not yet been officially set.

There were many comments on the X website (formerly Twitter) regarding the upcoming premiere. Fans of the Polish rap scene commented on what they think about the Netflix series. They haven’t had a chance to see what has been created yet, but many of them already know it won’t be worth their time. “I wonder if it will be as boring as other documentaries about Poles”, “Why isn’t there anyone interesting there?” – we read. There were also voices criticizing the selection of rappers who will talk about rap culture in the Netflix documentary. “Where is Peja?! I ask, where is he?”, “A documentary series about the Polish rap scene, with Young Leosia in one of the main roles. What went wrong with this culture?”, “Young Leosia? Szczyl? This is f*** Polish rap?”, “And where are Białas and Solar, who have one of the greatest contributions to the development of Polish rap?”, “I’m sorry, but disco polo doesn’t count” – write disappointed listeners.

Interestingly, the documentary about the Polish rap scene is not Netflix’s only venture into this musical genre. The streaming service recently announced casting for the show “New Deal: Rhythm + Flow Poland”. Foreign versions of the talent show won the hearts of viewers and were very enthusiastically received. So it was time for our domestic version. The judges of the program were Falcon, PIERCING and Bedos 2115. Top artists from the rap industry will be looking for young talents who are ready to prove that they deserve to be called the newest hip-hop star in Poland.
