“1989” is the new “Metro”? Watch the music video “Danuta receives the Nobel Prize” from the popular musical

“1989” it's a directed show Katarzyna Szyngiera (winner “Polityka” passport in the Theater category), and the inspiration for its creation was an American musical “Hamilton”by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The award-winning musical, sold out for several months in advance, is a co-production Theater Juliusz Słowacki in Krakow and the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater. The originator of the musical is Marcin Napiórkowski (cultural semiotician, habilitated doctor in cultural studies, lecturer at the Institute of Polish Culture, University of Warsaw). He is also the author of most of the lyrics.

“(…) The revolutionary musical 'Hamilton' introduced rap to Broadway, offering a fresh language of telling stories attractive to both young and older audiences. One of the best Polish rap producers is responsible for the sound of '1989' – Andrzej 'Webber' Mikosz known, among others, from many years of cooperation with Womb“- it was written on the show's website.

“1989” tells about the time of breakthrough – the main characters are the leaders of “Solidarity”: Lech Wałęsa, Władysław Frasyniuk and Jacek Kurońbut women – their wives – play an equally important role.

They are the ones who appear in the song “Danuta receives the Nobel Prize” (check!) – the first single from the album “1989” planned for autumn. Danuta Wałęsa she played Karolina Kazońand in this piece they accompany her Dominika Feiglewicz, Karolina Kamińska, Julia Latosińska, Małgorzata Majerska. The video also shows scenes with Lech Wałęsa's real wife, who was watching the performance in the audience.

“A masterpiece”, “What a power there is in this song, and Mrs. Danuta today and then! A miracle, maximum emotion”, “From cover to cover!”, “This song is even stronger with this clip” – Internet users are delighted.

Recall that apart from Webber the originator of the musical was involved in creating the songs for the show Marcin Napiórkowskiand Womb (created the final stage monologue Jacek Kuroń in the song “What if we win?”) and Beaver (songs “Olo, game changer”, “Let's talk” and “Debate”).

Tickets for the show are usually sold out at least several weeks in advance – for the next performances at the Theater. Słowacki (July 3, 4, 5 and 6) are no longer available. There are still several dozen vacant seats at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater (June 26, 27, 28).

Let us add that on May 27, “1989” was broadcast live on TVP – the play attracted over 800,000 viewers. viewers.
